Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling
Introduction:
I have a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from The University of North Texas. My Bachelor’s degree is in Psychology from Texas A&M University. My area of expertise includes adjustment to change and working with individuals with physical and mental disabilities in identifying resources and gaining skills needed to achieve and maintain employment. I have experience in providing emergency mental health services in a crisis setting as well as with counseling to address anger management, depression, and anxiety. I developed an interest in Women’s mental health and have specialized in the field of postpartum mental health.
Approach:
I provide counseling services to assist clients in establishing and working toward goals, identifying and coordinating with community resources, as well as counseling for adjustment to change or loss. My primary counseling method is based in Logotherapy and the search for meaning in various circumstances or experiences, drawing from other theories such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and cognitive behavioral models in order to implement action steps to work towards goals and to best fit the clients’ individual needs. I emphasize a holistic approach, working with individuals to address mental, physical, and spiritual health in order to work towards client self-empowerment. My primary interest and areas of specialized training are in working with women in transition stages of life, particularly during the perinatal period. I also have specialized knowledge in addressing anxiety and depression, as well as working with individuals with disabilities in adjustment to disability and transitioning to school or employment.
