Frequently asked questions

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, sometimes called “talk therapy”, is a term for a variety of treatment techniques that aim to help a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behavior. Psychotherapy takes place between a patient and a licensed, trained mental health professional meeting one-on-one in a highly confidential environment.

How do I know if I need therapy?

You don’t need to consider your mental health challenges “serious” to seek out a therapist. Some people pursue therapy to help manage a diagnosed mental illness, while others visit a therapist simply to have someone listen and provide guidance and support in a judgment-free setting. If you experience ongoing emotional problems, issues in relationships, or engage in troubling behavior towards yourself or others that cause distress or interfere with some aspect of your life, we recommend scheduling an evaluation.

Is therapy covered by my health insurance?

Yes! KindMind accepts nearly all major insurances. Copay/co-insurance and deductible amounts are based on your health plan benefits. Call us to find out what fees may be associated with your services. Click here for a list of each insurance we accept.

How long is a therapy session?

Therapy sessions can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on your desired level of care.

What do I need to do before my first appointment?

Prior to your first appointment, you will need to complete your new client paperwork via the Patient Portal link that was sent to your email inbox. KindMind cannot a new client until this paperwork is completed and will cancel your first appointment until it has been received.

Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment?

Please bring a copy of your driver’s license/ID and insurance card to your first appointment. We also ask that you inform us of your currently prescribed medications and their respective dosages and usage directions.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your intake appointment is a time for your therapist to learn about you, gather information, discuss your concerns, and identify what you are hoping to achieve and resolve. During this time, an assessment is completed and recommendations for services are made and will be discussed with you in-depth.

How do I schedule my second appointment?

All follow-up appointments will be scheduled with your therapist directly. At the end of your first appointment, you can decide whether you’d like to set a recurring session date or schedule each follow-up session as you go.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. State and federal regulations guarantee that your treatment information is kept confidential unless certain circumstances or conditions are met. Please discuss further with your therapist under what circumstances KindMind may not be able to keep information confidential.

What if I don’t have health insurance?

KindMind offers clients the option to pay out of pocket for services. Our self-pay rates are: $150 for your intake; $120 for each session thereafter
